Eric Migicovsky doesn't consider himself a hipster. When he applied to live at Minota Hagey Residence at the University of Waterloo in 2008 it wasn't because it boasted a funky wireless student lounge, a collection of the latest smartphones and conference room complete with video monitor. Although that was "cool," he said.
Mr. Migicovsky, at the time a fourthyear engineering system-design student, moved into the dorm because he wanted to incubate a start-up company. "It allowed me to stay in school and pursue an idea," he said.
