Stanford out of NCAA softball hunt, but not depressed

Stanford was eliminated from an NCAA softball regional 6-3, 6-3 by Hawaii and Texas Tech, respectively, at Smith Family Stadium on Saturday. Sounds like a tennis score. Game, set, match as a seventh regional title eluded John Rittman's club. Stanford lost to the Rainbow Wahine in the midday winner's-bracket game, then bowed to the Red Raiders in the evening elimination game.
However, expectations couldn't have been too high for Stanford after losing starter Teagan Gerhart to an arm injury in Arizona back on April 16. Counting that 3-2 loss to the Wildcats, the Cardinal finished the year 7-13. One might say Stanford did a credible job just to make it this far.
