After years of consumer complaints, Apple finally bowed to pressure and stuck an HDMI output on its refreshed Mac Mini, which debuted on the Apple Web site this morning. It still may not be the rumored next iteration of Apple TV (GigaOm even asks if the Mini is the new Apple TV), but could it be another entry point into the living room for the company?
Also in the Mini’s favor is built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, a move that makes it more convenient than about 90 percent of “connected” home theater devices, which still rely on a wired networking port. And the Mini seems like an incredibly open platform compared to Apple’s other new devices, capable of supporting this thing called Adobe Flash you may have heard of, as well as Boxee’s media center app.
