HTC pulls EVO update after bricked handset fears

HTC and Sprint have put a software update for the recently-released EVO 4G after reports that users have been left with unresponsive phones. The firms have yet to announce a solution for the problems.

The damage seems to be inconsistent: while some users report their devices being totally bricked, others who’ve suffered problems have either simply lost some functionality or lost contacts.

The problem appears to have taken the form of the update installing correctly and the phone rebooting, only for the display to immediately ask the user if they want to install the update. Those affected appear to have clicked to install the update a second time, though not everyone who did so suffered problems.
